The Cougars fell in their second game of the season to Coastal Carolina.
Though the team took an early lead thanks to a 3 pointer by Junior Megan Fischer (Hoffman Estates, IL), the Chanticleers fought their way to an 18-17 lead with five minutes left in the first half. Despite Coastal using a 23-7 run to assure their winning lead, the Cougars defense forced 16 turnovers and managed 9 steals.
Though the defense shined on Monday night, the College allowed Coastal to manage 27 turnovers of their own and enabled them to convert 17 second chance points, 10 more than the Cougars managed.
The game finished 59-36, with Fischer leading the team with nine points and six rebounds and Latisha Harris (Aynor, SC) close behind with seven points and six rebounds. Freshman Mikaela Hopkins (Augusta, GA) proved her worth with nine rebounds throughout the game.
The team next travels to Athens, GA for a game with Georgia on Nov. 17 at 7. Follow the CofC women’s basketball team, as well as the rest of College of Charleston athletics, at www.cisternyard.com/sports and get live updates from @GeorgeStSports on Twitter.
