Over the weekend the College of Charleston women’s basketball team played on the road at UNCG and Elon. They picked up a win at UNCG on Friday night but fell against Elon on Sunday afternoon. The now 3-13 team head back to Charleston playing ever more unified.
Friday’s game against UNCG proved to be a night of well rounded accuracy at net as nine player scored for the Cougars. In this line up were high scorers: Megan Fischer (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) junior Latisha Harris (Aynor, S.C.) and freshman Mikaela Hopkins (Augusta, Ga.), all of whom registered eight points each.
However, the game high goes to Alyssa Frye (Chester, Va.) who scored a 3-pointer late in the game, clinching the win. This basket was all a part of her 14 points total points to seal the win for the Cougars.
With limited turnovers for the Cougars and holding their opponent to a 31.5 percent shooting average the Charleston gave UNCG little opportunity to win the game.
Unfortunately the weekend of road games did not have as happy of an ending as it did a beginning as they lost to Elon later that weekend.
Even though the Cougars went eight of 11 at the free-throw line and led by seven during the first half, it was the Phoenix’s strong second half seemed to be the game changing and game winning combination.
The first half of the game the Cougars led 25-23 going into the second half. However
Elon player Ali Ford scored 13 of her 15 points during the second half of the game.
The game against Elon also gave Latisha Harris (Aynor, S.C.) her fifth double-double of the 2011-12 season.
The Cougars are back in the TD Arena this Wednesday night Jan. 16 at 7p.m.
