The 11th annual Fight for Air Run/Walk 5k and 10k will begin at 9 a.m. this Saturday at Folly Beach pier and welcomes any and all student organizations to participate.

Audrey Gibson, a Communication major at the College and current intern for the American Lung Association, helped plan and promote the charity event.

“Well, first it started by just me looking for an internship and when I began to look into the American Lung Association it opened my eyes to how great this organization really is.”

“Originally it was open to just middle school and high school students, but since I go to College of Charleston I was able to share this opportunity with student clubs on campus as well,” Gibson said with a smile.

Lucey Mortgage Company has generously offered a  $1,000 donation for any College of Charleston club that registers more than 25 students at the run/walk on Saturday. The club with the second most students in attendance will receive a $500 donation.

The monetary incentive for this event is great, but more is at play here.

“The reason why I opened it up to clubs it because I enjoy and appreciate the thought of people from all over Charleston coming together for a unifying purpose,” Gibson explained. “We wanted to get people in competition and get them into action to help promote and fight for clean air.”

The money raised from this event will go toward educating the public on how to improve lung health and prevent lung disease.

“It’s all about the fight, the fight to achieve our goals as a non-profit and to create a healthier and more knowledgeable community,” Gibson gladly remarked.
