An active shooting situation is currently playing out at the popular restaurant Virginia’s on King. According to the Post and Courier, one person has been shot and hostages are still trapped in the building. King Street is shut down between Morris and Calhoun. Law enforcement officers are stationed outside of Kelly House, McAlister Residence Hall and Warren Residence Halls and are directing the entrance and exit of students there. All other areas of campus are functioning normally.
The gunman is reportedly an ex-employee of the restaurant.

Cougar Alerts were sent out at 12:47 and 1:34 p.m. Students and faculty should continue to avoid the area.
