College of Charleston Volleyball Preview

On Friday Aug. 25, the College of Charleston Volleyball Team begins their season by hosting the Hampton Inn and Suites Classic in TD Arena.

The Cougars will play USC Upstate on Friday and then face off against Tennessee State and Denver on Saturday.

After going 17-12 overall and 10-6 in conference play during the 2016 season, the Cougars are primed for another strong season.

With nine upperclassmen on the roster, head coach Jason Kepner has a strong balance of veterans to push for not only the CAA Regular Season Championship but also the conference title.

Three Cougars received Preseason All-CAA Honors. Kennedy Madison earned a spot on the Preseason All-CAA Team while Allison Beckman and Krissy Mummey each garnered Honorable Mention recognition.

The Cougars also received six of the nine first-place votes, becoming the preseason favorite to win the CAA Title.

“Our expectation [is that] we should be at the top of the conference competing for a championship. I think that is what we expect every year and then put ourselves into a position to be in the NCAA tournament. When you start the preseason schedule [you are] not really worrying about conference just yet. You are worrying about putting yourself in a position to get in at large bin in the NCAA tournament,” said Kepner.

This is a Cougars’ team with a lot of talent and under Kepner’s tutelage this could be yet another special year for Charleston volleyball.
