Secretary of State Rex Tillerson Confirms His Commitment to President Trump

On Oct. 4, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson announced that he will not be leaving the Trump administration. The response came after it was reported that Tillerson insulted  President Trump  earlier this year after his speech regarding foreign policy, calling the President a “moron.”

Presumably, President Trump was not pleased and told Forbes in an interview on Tuesday, Oct. 10, “I think it’s fake news, but if he did that, I guess we’ll have to compare IQ tests. And I can tell you who is going to win.”

President Trump accompanied  Secretary Tillerson and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis for lunch in the private presidential dining room in the White House. Shortly after the lunch, a reporter asked President Trump of his relationship with Secretary Tillerson. Trump stated, “We have a very good relationship…We disagree on a couple of things. Sometimes I’d like him to be a little bit tougher. But other than that, we have a very good relationship.”

According to The Washington Post, Secretary Tillerson was not dismayed by the minor situation, stating, “The secretary of state felt it necessary to assert his adult presence within the realm of Washington media earlier today when he made clear that he is not going anywhere, and that he is unruffled by the childish headlines accusing him of calling the president names and having to be coaxed into staying at the State Department.”
