Cougars Pitch 12th Sweep of the Year to Remain in First Place

The College of Charleston volleyball team swept both Hofstra and Northeastern over the weekend for their 11th and 12th sweeps of the season. The wins put the Cougars in first place in the CAA.

In Friday’s win over Hofstra, the Cougars relied heavily on Kennedy Madison and Devon Rachel. Madison finished the match with 14 kills and three blocks while Rachel finished with nine kills and two blocks.

Allison Beckman also played well-finishing the game with 29 assists and 13 digs.

Charleston won the match in straight sets with scores of 25-13, 25-18, and 30-28.

On Saturday the Cougars were looking for revenege against Northeastern as their only conference loss came against the Huskies just a few weeks ago.

The Cougars were able to take care of business winning the match in straight sets with scores of 25-23, 25-13, and 25-21.

With the victory, Charleston is currently riding an eight-game winning streak with dominant play coming from all over the team.

Madison and Rachel played well once again leading the team in kills. Madison finished with 12 kills and three blocks and Rachel finished with 11 kills and two blocks.

Krissy Mummey and McKala Rhodes both cracked the top ten in the record books. Mummey is now 10th in blocks and Rhodes currently sits at 10th in digs.

With two wins over the weekend, the Cougars’ record is 20-4 overall with an 8-1 record in conference play.

The hottest team in the CAA Charleston is playing their best volleyball at the right time. Their next game is at home on Monday against James Madison in another important conference game.
