Cremins: A coach with true compassion

When a Southern Conference representative told a crowd of reporters that Charleston coach Bobby Cremins would skip an opening statement and go straight to questions for the sake of meeting deadlines, Cremins said no way. Instead of diving straight in to talk about how his team defeated Chattanooga 96-69 in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament, Cremins spoke about UTC’s Ty Patterson. “Obviously, our concern is about Ty Patterson. I have great respect for him. My prayers are with Ty...

Emotions are a part of the game

It’s hard not to cry after a game like that. Imagine what the players feel like. I’ve had to walk off my emotions for the last twenty minutes (I walked past the Bobcats’ locker room and just being two feet from the door made me feel as if I was trespassing – covering the game in an NBA arena has been a blast). I won’t bring myself to cry, but I’d be surprised if there aren’t some waterworks in the Cougars locker room. Emotions are a part of the game. They have the redeeming power to...

Charleston cruises over Chattanooga in quarterfinals, 96-69

It was a Saturday night shootout at the Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte as the College of Charleston men’s basketball team rushed out to a 96-69 victory over Chattanooga. The pro-Charleston crowd roared as Andrew Goudelock scored a game-high 27 points on 7-for-10 shooting from behind the arc. It wasn’t just Goudelock though. Tony White Jr. continued to demolish the Mocs with his offense. White shot 50 percent on the night and finished with 22 points. Although Charleston cruised to its first-...

Cougars fall with 23 point loss to Appalachian State

With 2:30 left in the Southern Conference semifinals, College of Charleston’s Tony White, Jr. came out of the game, sat at the end of the bench and buried his head in his hands. To say it was a disappointment would be an understatement. White didn’t look up at all as the Appalachian State Mountaineers cruised to a 77-54 victory over the College at the Time Warner Cable Arena on Sunday night. With the loss, the Cougars ended their season at 21-11 while Buzz Peterson’s 22...

Women's basketball falls to Georgia Southern in SoCon quarterfinals

It was almost too good to be true. The College of Charleston women’s team clawed its way out of an 11-point first half deficit to take a 3-point lead with four minutes to play in the game against Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament. The game came down to a rebounding battle as Brooke Kotcella pulled down her ninth board to pass it around to a wide-open Tonia Gerty. Gerty sunk the 3-pointer to give Charleston a 56-54 lead with less than 30...

There has been great debate recently about repealing the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy currently enforced in the military. This policy allows homosexuals to fight in the military as long as they lie about their sexual orientation. Recently, however, there has been a push to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy so that men and women may serve their country no matter what their sexual orientation may be. “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” became policy in 1993 following Bill Clinton’s promise to...

The New York Times recently published an article about a national cooking trend: tweezers. Normally used for delicate surgeries that grant life to the human body, these tools have come into the avant-garde hands of chefs who use them to delicately craft dishes that grant life back to conventionalized taste buds. What was once too gossamer to realize is now on high-end plates. Micromanaged cooking marks an ideological shift for the chefs’ paintings.
