Well said, Mr. Bleacher! What a delight it is to read a well-written, coherent piece that courageously takes a morally upstanding position. I will look forward to your next article with great anticipation and expectation.
To call China a "military oriented country" is about the most ridiculous thing a U.S. citizen could say. The United States spends approximately 50% of our budget on "defense," whereas China's military spending was less than 2% of their budget last year.
Whether you would like to acknowledge it or not, global politics are inexorably tied to economics; China can't do any real economic damage to us because they are equally dependent economically on us as we are on them, and to think that China's leaders would like to have any influence over American rights is ludicrous.
Have you ever seen English parliament? While the PM is speaking they blurt our vulgar phrases, and many things much worse than Congressman Wilson. I think he had the guts to say what others were thinking. So before that she can say "no one has ever been as rude as Joe Wilson,” take a look at pretty much ANY other country and you will see fighting, cursing, and insults in their government.
So, so many people are hurting and desperately in need in Haiti, and all you can do is complain that someone is doing something wrong, once again. The College raised over $1740 in two days from students. That's an amazing response and clearly shows that students care about this. While, yes, Haiti is going to take years to rebuild, there is no reason to belittle people for helping out today.
Something is being lost in the transmission of ideas. When Friends of McLeod states that they want to see McLeod preserved "as it is", they mean that the plantation should not be altered or adapted for use as a school. They want it preserved, restored, and protected for the public. They do not want to see it developed as a sports complex. The field should be kept open, perhaps planted as a farm. The buildings should be stabilized as historic structures. If the PRC owned it, accommodation of the public would require parking and restrooms, which Mr. O'Rourke has stated would be kept as unobtrusive as possible. If the COC owns it, they plan a soccer field at a minimum. In the course of time, and without better oversight from a truly preservation minded organization, a classroom would be built, to be followed inevitably by others, parking, etc. The nature of the property would change, and the public would have no access.
The same thing is happening to kids in my town, but worse physical assualts by police officers multiple $ 600+ fines. Even though the only thing that could prevent it is a mayoral proclamation .
Correction to one of the quotes: They actually DO NOT pay their models.
