Cougars claim four titles at CofC Invitational

The College of Charleston took three of five doubles titles and added a singles title at the CofC Invitational at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant on Sept. 18.

Katie Lee took Charleston’s individual title when she beat teammate Kelly Kambourelis, 6-3, 7-6 (4) to win the A3 flight championship.

Jenny Falcone and Samantha Maddox, who were both making their first start for the Cougars, knocked off Coastal Carolina’s Mihaela Bunea and Diana Mortlock, 9-7, to win A1 doubles.

Sisters Caroline and Christin Newman took A2 doubles with an 8-2 finals victory over the Charleston Southern team of Alexandra Walters and Yvonne Hubler.

Kambourelis and Jamie Harrell won B2 doubles with an 8-1 vicory over Ginny Johnson and Iveta Guneva of UNC Charlotte.

The College’s women’s tennis team will play at the ITA Carolina Regional Championship in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Oct. 20-24. They open their Southern Conference season in March.
