College of Charleston senior Corey Hall won the home-hosted regional Women’s Singlehanded Championships in Charleston Harbor on Saturday, and will represent the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association at the ICSA Singlehanded Nationals.
Hall had five top-two finishes out of the seven FJ class races to earn a four-point win over South Florida’s Dominique Wright, 18-22. Wright will earn the SAISA’s second Nationals berth. This will be the third straight season Hall will compete at the Singlehanded Nationals.
Clerc Cooper placed fifth, Mallory Buechler sixth and Carly Shevitz seventh for Charleston.
The Cougars also placed fourth out of 18 teams at the St. Mary’s Fall Intersectional in St. Mary’s City, Md., this weekend.
Charleston finished with 96 points, just six points out of second place, and 18 points off Connecticut College’s regatta-winning score.
Seniors Sam Stokes and Perry Emsiek finished fourth in A Division, while Ben Spector and Alyssa Aitken won a head-to-head tiebreaker to finish third in B Division.
The Cougars also sailed at North Points #3 in Clemson, coming in fourth in the 11-team regatta behind host Clemson, Georgia Tech and Tennessee. Amy Kubie and Mary Massalon placed fourth in A Division, while freshmen Connor Murphy and Morgan Buckley took fifth in B Division.
Charleston hosts the T.S. Stern Match Race this weekend on Charleston Harbor, while part of the team will travel to the SAISA Men’s Singlehanded Championship in Jacksonville, Fla.
