Cougars fall to Furman on the road

The College of Charleston volleyball team is on the road this weekend traveling to Greenville and Spartanburg, South Carolina to face two SoCon competitors. The Cougars spent last night in Greenville playing against the Furman University Paladins.

The Cougars started off the match strong by obtaining the first set victory with a score of 25-22. Unfortunately the team couldn’t keep the fire going and fell to the Paladins during the second set with a 21-25 loss.

CofC fought back during the third set but fell just a little short once again with a losing score of 23-25.

The Cougars ended up losing the final set as well with a score of 25-6, and a final match loss of 3-1. This is the first SoCon loss of the season for the Cougars putting them with a SoCon record of 4-1 and total season record of 13-8.

Freshman Sloane White and senior Sarah Havel led the team with kills for the game vs. Furman with White having a total of 11 and Havel making 10. Holding up the defense  as the dig leaders for the Cougars were freshman Lizzie Theesfeld with 19 digs and senior Emily Shelton with 17.

Tonight the Cougars will shake last night’s loss off their shoulders and come back strong to face another SoCon opponent, the Wofford Terriers, in Spartanburg, SC at 6PM.
