Equestrian team opens season on the road

Competing with 14 other schools and an impressive 200 riders, the College of Charleston came away from the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone 5 Region 3 meet with a respectable 4th place overall.

Hosted by Florida State University, the meet was the team’s first of its season. The meet showed the power behind this year’s team. Helping the team to that fourth place spot were three individual winners: Sara von Schweintz (Irmo, SC) in the Section A Walk Trot, Malka Fox-Epstein (Rochester, NY) in the Section B Novice Flat, and Amanda Mazzola (Annapolis, Md) in the Section C Walk Trot Canter.

With eight individual wins, Savannah College of Art and Design took away the first place. Georgia Southern and the University of Central Florida rounded out the top three.

The team next meets at SCAD on Oct 22 and will not have a home meet until Nov. 19. Follow the equestrian team, as well as the rest of College of Charleston athletics, at www.cisternyard.com/sports and get live updates from @GeorgeStSports on Twitter.
