Five College of Charleston sports teams are in action this weekend, highlighted by the men’s soccer team’s home game against Stanford on Friday night, and the volleyball team’s exhibition against the Slovenian Junior National team at noon on Saturday.
The Stanford match, slated for 7:30 p.m. at Patriots Point, is the Cougars’ home opener, and the College will provide transportation over the bridge and back for interested students. The men opened their season last Friday with a tough, 1-0 loss at South Carolina, and are looking for a strong home crowd to back them to their first win of a season that will feature games against nine teams who played in last year’s NCAA Tournament. The men will also host Dayton at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The volleyball team opened play last weekend at home by picking up wins over Sacramento State and Jacksonville, before falling to N.C. State, 3-1, in a match that was tightly contested through all four sets. They will look to get back on track on Friday night with a 7 p.m. game against North Florida, before they face the Slovenians at noon and Memphis at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
The women’s soccer team will be at Charleston Southern on Friday afternoon, before traveling to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on Florida State on Sunday.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams will open their seasons in Columbia on Friday in the USC Gamecock Invitational.
