Politically-centered clubs host mock presidential debate

On Oct. 17, Political Science Club, College Republicans and College Democrats will collaborate to host a Mock Trial Debate in light of the upcoming Presidential Election.  It will be held in room 202 of the Tate Center from 7 to 9 p.m.

Political Science Club member Lauren Lathan said, “This debate is focused on current social issues like abortion, marriage rights et cetera.”

During this event students from the host clubs will take turns representing Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. It will allow students to get a hands on feel of the debate procedures as well as the political stances of both the Republican and Democrat candidates.

With campus and community driven voter registration drives, all three clubs hope that voter turnout will be high this election. Lathan stressed the importance of utilizing the right to vote. She said, “It is important to vote, because voting is what gives you a voice in our government and allows for changes to be made.”

All students are welcome and club membership is not required for attendance.

Food and refreshments will be provided following the debate.
