With different activities, such as giveaways, a “lunch and learn” and even a speaker, the Office of Student Life hopes to raise awareness for students on breast cancer. Abigail Pruett, the Graduate Assistant for the Office of Student Life, said the event, “is intended to reach out to the entire campus, even students who do not regularly come to the Student Center.”
Volunteers from Student Life will have a table set up in the Stern Center with various snacks and giveaways in the morning. At 11:30 a.m. a “lunch and learn” will be held featuring a representative from the Susan G. Komen Lowcountry location to speak to students about breast cancer and to raise awareness. The presentation will aim to break down the facts of breast cancer for college-aged students in a “Breast Cancer 101” type presentation.
Over the past few days, the Office of Student Life twitter account, @CofCStudentLife, has been tweeting two breast cancer facts a day to raise awareness and promote the event. These tweets contain myths, facts and statistics about breast cancer. The students who retweet these particular posts with the hashtag “thinkpink” will be entered in a drawing to win an iPad mini, as well as a case.
