If you were not in Stern last Thursday you missed out on a real treat: free food, free games and pretty snazzy raffle prizes! But there’s only more to come, because every third Thursday of each month Stern hosts a late night event. Students with their Cougar cards are encouraged to come out to Stern with friends for a fun filled night that always has raffle drawings with prizes and free food. This past Thursday was no different.

This month, Stern’s NiteLife coordinators for third Thursdays, which include students LaShanda Haynes and Morgan Taylor and adviser Nicki Jenkins, turned the building into a large game room with activities outside and on each floor inside the building. Extreme Air and Urban Hoops played outside and the lobby gave directions to what was happening inside on every floor.

The second floor hosted the Game Room events that included video games and a costume contest. Also, free food including chicken tenders, candy, cookies, drinks and a full nacho bar was provided on this floor as well. The raffle held on the second floor started promptly at 10:15 p.m. and some of the prizes taken home were a television, iHome, road trip pack, portable record player, CofC gear, and Ipad Mini with a keyboard.

After the raffle was over, a “Dancing Heads” station (very similar to a photo booth) took place on the third floor while Black Light Mini Golf was played in the ballroom and a regular photo booth was on the fourth floor as well.

All of the effort put into the night by Stern Nite Life’s staff, coordinators and small pool of volunteer was well worth it. Students not only enjoyed themselves but everyone in attendance went home with goodies that included bags filled with candy and small prizes. “The event was great and all of our hard work paid off in the end. We love to see CofC students having a good time and leaving our events happy,”student coordinator LaShanda Haynes said.

Continue to look for events from Stern Nitelife throughout the year. Late night events such as these always take place after 9pm on the third Thursday of each month and their next late night event will be Nov. 20. Also, if you’re looking for something spooky to do this Halloween, Stern NiteLife is providing FREE ghost tours of Charleston’s infamous Old City Jail Oct. 22 and 23 at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Tickets will be available at the Stern Info Desk from 5-7 p.m. both days.  For more information on future events you can contact Morgan Taylor or LaShanda Haynes.
