The Most RACES Show on Earth! is coming to Charleston Music Hall this Saturday night. And no, you did not read that incorrectly. In 2005, stand-up comedian Neil Bansil decided to create a show allowing comedians of all different ethnicities, cultures, religions, and sexual orientations to perform together under one roof.
With its origins in Toronto, multicultural hub and Bansil’s hometown, The Most RACES Show On Earth! has traveled to New York City, Atlanta, Texas and now to Charleston. Bansil hopes to continue uniting audiences all over the country.
“I believe that Charleston is a diverse city made up of all different ethnicities, cultures and religions,” Bansil said. “And the best way of bringing us all together is through the universal language of laughter.”
That is what Bansil intends to do for the people of Charleston Saturday night: bring them together, dispel their differences and heal present racial tensions. Bansil believes that this is what Charleston needs now more than ever.
“My hope was that the show would bring together audiences who wouldn’t normally attend the same show in the same venue on a single night,” Bansil said. “We are all essentially the same because we laugh at all the same things.”
The show starts at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for students and can be purchased online or at the box office at Charleston Music Hall.
