Dressing for Twelve Hours in Charleston

We all can relate when I say that there’s a struggle dressing in the ever-changing Charleston weather. Most days we wake up to cool temperatures, and by the time we are out of class, it is sunny and hot! Not to mention that come nighttime, it is once again chilly and sometimes colder than it was that morning. This is why it is imperative to understand the proper way to layer while maintaing style, comfort and being prepared for any inevitable temperature changes that may come.

Several of you may not realize, but layering does not have to mean sloppy. There is an art to layering, and although it may seem complicated, it is quite easy to¬†layer and still look fashionable. Hopefully by the end of this post, you’ll be able to grasp this simple concept and be layered and looking cute in no time.

First, let’s talk about possible outfit options. It is crucial to realize that there are infinite ways to layer and look chic. Remember – layering is not only to keep you warm and allow for temperature changes, but it also makes your outfit more interesting and can help you to stand out.

Leather is huge this fall; you can’t get away with missing out on this trend. Tie a leather jacket around your waist for a cute, chic look that can be used to throw on your shoulders in case it gets chilly.

Thin layers are essential for fall, especially when the temperature changes frequently throughout the day. Thin sweaters, button downs, jeans and booties are perfect for mid sixty degree weather.

Don’t be shy to change things up and pair rompers or shorts with sweaters and cardigans. When you know the afternoon is going to be hot and sunny but the morning is a little chilly, pair your favorite romper with that go-to cardigan for a balanced and practical look.

For a cute and casual layered look, pair those skinny jeans with some canvas shoes – fall favorite this season. Grab a scarf and wrap it around your neck for some extra warmth and added sophistication to your outfit! And lastly, don’t forget to finish off your look with your go-to sunnies and bag.

Obviously it’s not necessary to follow these layering trends to a ‘T’, but keep an open mind when dressing yourself and remember that layering is not only comfortable and chic, but it is one of the hottest trends this fall.
