The College of Charleston women’s basketball team faced Appalachian State at home Wed. night. Bolstered by a career high 16 points from Darien Huff, the Cougars defeated Appalachian State (60-50).
The victory snapped Charleston’s 10 game losing streak against Appalachian State. After winning their three of their last four the team is off to their best start since 2009, 4-2.
Though the Cougars never trailed in the first half, but they were unable to pull away. Up 22-15 in the second period, Charleston freshmen Huff was leading the way in both points (7) and rebounds (4).
Appalachian State would tie the game 27 late in the half, before the Cougars took a 29-27 lead going into the break. Charleston did not trial at all in the first half while shooting 30.8% from the field.
The Cougars were able to capitalize off of the 28 turnovers committed by Appalachian State, with 25 of their points coming off of turnovers.
The third period both offenses started to heat up as it was the highest scoring period of the game.
Cougars finished the third period leading 46-42.
Appalachian State hung around in the fourth, but it was not enough as the Cougars were able to close it out, taking the win by a score of 60-50. The Cougars were led by Huff who had nine point while adding four rebounds.
The victory brings the Cougars record up to 4-2. They will look to continue their hot streak Tues. night when they hit the road to take on Charlotte.
