Head Coach of the College of Charleston basketball team, Earl Grant, signed a two-year extension on Thursday afternoon through the 2019-2020 season.
Grant just completed his second season as the head coach where his team saw dramatic improvement. Since Grant has been the head coach, the team has increased the win total. In his first season, the Cougars went 9-24 winning only only three of their conference games. The second season, which saw an increase of 8 total wins, shows the progress that Charleston men’s basketball has made under Grant’s leadership.
In addition to increasing the win total, Grant has led his team over preseason ranked LSU team while also advancing the boys to the second round of the CAA Conference Tournament for the second consecutive season.
Not only has Grant produced wins, but he has seen great development from his players. Of the six players who were recognized as an all conference player, freshman Jarrell Brantley was the star among them.
Brantley was the first player from the College of Charleston to be recognized as Rookie of the Year since 2006. He was also selected to the All-CAA Third Team.
Among others who were selected were Cameron Johnson, All-CAA Third Team and CAA All-Defensive Team, Payton Hulsey, CAA All-Defensive Team, Canyon Barry, CAA All-Academic Team, Evan Bailey, CAA All-Academic Team, and Marquise Pointer, CAA All-Rookie Team and All-Defensive Team.
These players range from freshmen to juniors and have developed wonderfully under Grant. Grant’s extension will allow him to develop his team even more. The future ahead for Grant and Charleston basketball is brighter than it has been in a long time.
