How Art Thou Music Lounge welcomed performer Richie Cole with a lively ambiance and a plethora of drink options. Cole played with three other musicians, creating a newly formed jazz band for the nights of Oct. 21 and 22. The small building that How Art Thou Music Lounge resides in kept the atmosphere of the show intimate and personal, allowing at times guests to even engage in conversations with Cole in between songs. The word “concert” does not necessarily give an accurate picture of what the evening looked like. While guests were asked to keep talking down to a minimum in order for the focus of the evening to be on the
music, the environment resembled a family sitting around listening to one of its members playing an old favorite song. Guests were not strangers to each other but rather engaged in conversations before and after the show, bringing the feeling of community into the room even more.
Although not every evening brings the opportunity to listen to an internationally known artist such as Cole, shows are held
frequently hosting both local and bigger artist alike. After a little over an hour of hearing solos played by Cole, you are put in a state of ataraxia. Then, upbeat multi-instrumental songs played by all four musicians carry you back into a more invigorating mood, and you walk away from the evening refreshed and revived.
