This weekend proved to be an exciting and successful stretch for the College of Charleston Volleyball Team at the Charleston Invitational hosted right at home at TD Arena. The Cougars took down the Appalachian State Mountaineers, the Mercer Bears and the Buffalo Bulls in a thrilling two-day tournament.

Friday night saw a match-up between Charleston and Appalachian State. The Cougars swept the match in three sets with final scores of 25-12, 25-9 and 25-12. Strong serving was seen by the team’s libero, McKala Rhodes in the first set, accompanied by outside hitter, Devon Rachel’s match-high 11 kills. The team demonstrated excellent skill and performance in their opening match.

Saturday afternoon featured the Cougars vs. Mercer. Mercer put up a fight, winning the second set by a score of 25-22. Charleston ultimately took the match, winning set one with a score of 25-9, the third set with a score of 25-18 and the third score with a score of 25-9. MVP honors went to middle blocker, Kennedy Madison as well as a spot on the all-tournament team as well as McKayla Rodes, and middle blocker Krissy Mummey.

The conclusion of the tournament puts the Cougars’ record at 10-3 and their next game is on the road against South Carolina State Tuesday night.
