Women’s Soccer Still Winless In Conference Play

The College of Charleston Women’s Soccer team faced off against conference rival Elon on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, the Cougars were not able to take care of business and fell to Elon 2-1 in double-overtime.

The loss marks the second in conference play and the Cougars remain winless (in conference play).

Elon was able to create more opportunities than the Cougars-outshooting Charleston 15-9 and had more shots on goal: 6-5.

The scoring started early as Elon scored their first goal of the game at the 2:49 mark. However, neither team would score again until the second period.

The Cougars would tie the game off of Laura Ortega’s goal at the 67:32 mark. Ortega’s goal was her fourth of the season.

Charleston and Elon proved to be an even match as it took a double-overtime effort for Elon to squeak by the Cougars.

In the end, Elon scored at the 102:55 mark to cap their victory at 2-1.

Charleston’s record is 5-5-1 and will have a chance to improve that record when they visit James Madison on Thursday.
