Saturday night’s quarterfinal match-up between the College of Charleston and Elon University proved to be exciting. The Cougars won 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals behind Leland Archer’s two goals.
Elon scored early in the first half to take a 1-0 lead, but the Cougars were able to answer just minutes later to tie up the game.
The game remained tied for much of the second half, until a splintering penalty kick from Archer, concluded Charleston’s 2-1 victory.
The game resulted in four yellow cards, one of which was assessed to the Cougars. Despite the grueling game, the Cougars now boast a nine-game win streak and will proceed to the semi-finals, for the second consecutive year, where they will face UNCW.
This season the College of Charleston beat UNCW in their lone matchup this season 2-1 and will look to have a similar result on Friday.
