Chealey Leads Cougars to Win Over 49ers

The College of Charleston men’s basketball team got back to their winning ways with an 81-72 victory over the Charlotte 49ers.

Joe Chealey led the way for the Cougars scoring 29 points and netting seven rebounds.

Cameron Johnson and Grant Riller also played well. Johnson added 18 points and seven rebounds while Riller added 17 points of his own.

A big road win for the Cougars after their loss to Witchita State gives the Cougars confidence before they appear in the GCI Great Alaska Shootout tournament next week.

For the game, the Cougars shot 50% from the field, 45% from three, and 86% from the free throw line.

Charleston led in each major statistical category except for in rebounds where the 49ers outrebounded Charleston 36-34.

The win on Saturday brings the Cougars’ record to 2-1. Their next game is on Wednesday against Cal Poly in the GCI Great Alaska Shootout tournament.
