Cougars Remain Undefeated in Victorious Weekend

This past weekend marked the beginning of the Spring season for the College of Charleston men’s tennis team.

With plenty of time to prepare since the team’s last action on October 28th, the squad came out the gate on their toes and ready to dive into the season at hand.

Last Saturday, the men’s tennis team squared off against the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University.

On Saturday, the Cougars won the doubles matches by way of forfeit, along with the first and third singles matches. Juan Estevarena faced Victor Bravo and brought home the victory with final match scores of 6-4 and 6-3.

Kicking off a successful collegiate debut was Ksawery Pociej, who faced Phillip Lynch. This matchup sealing the final victory with scores of 6-4 for both matches. Against Bethune-Cookman, Charleston won 5-2.

Sunday saw yet another victory for Charleston, against Florida A&M with a final score of 5-2. Juan Estevera and Kasawery Pociej led the way with success in both their double and single matches, Estevera winning 6-3 and 6-3 against Frederigo Nani.

Despite losing the first match with a score of 5-7, Pociej secured the victory with scores of 6-4 and 7-5 in the tie-breaker match. In addition, Ryan Khan contributed by winning with scores of 6-2 in both matches.

The MVP of the day was Easton Thomas who played a strong game and beat Ilya Skoromnyy in the singles match with scores of 6-2 in the second and third set despite losing the first set at 2-6.

The College is currently 2-0 this season and Estevarena remains undefeated after the weekend.

The Cougars look to keep their record unblemished against Furman on February 10th, as they remain on the road.
