In their reports, the Executive Council gave updates and instructions for Senators for the College’s biannual bike auction which took place from 2-5pm on Jan 31. The Executive Council  revealed that progress on consolidating The College’s wifi networks to “eduroam” is at about 65%. Additionally, SGA is collaborating with Charleston Green Taxi to provide students with free and discounted rides starting in fall 2018. Contract negotiations are in progress with Charleston Green Taxi. SGA also encourages club leaders and representatives to attend the President’s roundtable on Feb. 15 as an opportunity to cofunction and network.

The Senate also authorized a number of bills, most of them allocating funds to different clubs from the SGA’s approximately $9,000 contingency. The Senate approved contingency funding for the Honors Student Association (HSA), Quidditch team and Charleston Miracle. The Senate also approved the College’s Comedy Club, Blockchain Club and Pretty Active, an athletic club geared towards women’s empowerment, to enter their 28 day waiting periods. The Senate notably unanimously consented to a bill to amend the SGA bylaws to make them gender neutral. New sophomore Senators, Bradeley Odac, Megan Eney and Hannah Collins were also sworn in.

A Senate committee is now looking back into the SGA’s umbrella sharing program after it was terminated due to theft, along with discussing the possibility of a digital Cougar Card. Separate Senate Committees also updated the body with progress in receiving charging ports in the library and dog waste stations around campus.

SGA Senate Sessions are held every Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the Stern Center Ballroom, 4th floor Stern Center. Meetings are open to all students.
