CofC Senate Summary for the Week of 9/17/2018

The following is a letter to written to College of Charleston Students by SGA President, Tripp Keeffe

Hello my fellow CofC students,

This is Tripp Keeffe, your student government president writing the first installment of Senate Summaries, a new column on CisternYard Media aimed at keeping students up to date with student government affairs.

The first senate of the year occurred Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Tanner Morris, a guest speaker from the Athletics Department discussed school spirit and incentives for sporting event attendance. A fall sports punch card, if completed, will offer awards like a College of Charleston cooler or Bluetooth speaker. Mr. Morris also showed his support for the new official Pep Club on campus – a subsidiary committee of Student Government. The aim of the pep club is to garner more students who have an enthusiasm for the College and its sporting events.

The Annual Bike Auction which will be held on Wedensday, Sept. 26 on George street between Coming street and Glebe street from 11am-2pm was next on our agenda.

Senate ended with the confirmation of new senators and appointed positions. The Senate also selected a parliamentarian, Senator Atiana Rizzo; and a new president pro tempore, Senator Celeste Green.

If you are interested in seeing more of what happens in the Senate, make sure to attend the Senate sessions in Stern or tune in on the live stream on the College of Charleston SGA Facebook page.

Additionally, you can watch any archived videos of Senate livestreams on our College of Charleston Student GoPage and follow our Instagram @cofc.sga to keep up to date on events and new developments on campus.

Lastly, I want to make you aware of SGA’s partnership with Charleston Green Taxi to provide students with free transportation. Students are eligible for free rides if they register for the app with a CofC email address and enter promo code COFC7.

We are looking forward to sharing with you many more Senate Sessions and exciting changes throughout Keeffe-Graham Administration!
