The College of Charleston Volleyball team was back home in TD Arena on Friday night to face region rival, Elon.
This was the first region match of the season for the Cougars. The squad is currently tied with Hofstra for the best record in the CAA and remains tied for first in the region, with a record of 11-5-0.
The College defeated Elon in a 3-0 sweep. Elon did not go out without a fight, making all three of the sets competitive. The Cougars won the sets 25-17, 25-19, and 25-19. This is a great start to region play for the ladies, as they look to dominate the region once again this season.
The offense was on fire all night. Devon Rachel, Lauren Freed, and Kennedy Madison led the Cougars in kills. Devon Rachel led the match with 14 kills, followed by Lauren Freed’s 11 and Kennedy Madison’s 8. Allison Beckman led the match in assists, creating 33 of the team’s 41 for the night. Logan Manusky had 4 and Devon Rachel had 1.
On the defensive end, the Cougars had a total of 63 digs and 5 blocks. Logan Manusky, Allison Beckman and Lauren Freed led the team in digs with Manusky getting 13, Beckman with 11 and Freed with 11 as well. Defense was truly the deciding factor for the team in this inter-conference matchup.
Last season, the Cougars finished 1st in the CAA and made it to the CAA Championship game. Despite their best efforts, the squad fell short to #3 seed James Madison University.
This year they are looking to rewrite their wrongs, and finish the season on the other side of the championship match. Their next match for the College of Charleston Volleyball team is against regional opponent, William and Mary, where they look to continue their winning ways.
