On Sunday, the College of Charleston Volleyball team faced off against conference foe, Elon University for the last match of the regular season. The College had a two-game win streak coming into Sunday’s match against the Phoenix.
The Cougars swept the Phoenix 3-0, winning the sets 25-21, 25-16, 25-13.
This match was heavily one-sided. The Cougars had the upper hand in every statistical category besides blocks, which they tied with four.
The offense seemed to be clicking all night as the Cougars scored 54 points. The College clocked in a staggering 44 kills for the match.
Junior Lauren Freed had a match-high 15 kills, along with a match-high 2 aces and an assist.
Charleston also totalled 40 assists for the match, as senior Allison Beckman led the charge with 32 of the total assists.
Defense was key for the Cougars as they had 54 digs in the match. Sophomore Logan Manusky led the match in digs with 15, followed closely by senior Mckala Rhodes’ 13 and Allison Beckman’s 10.
Senior Devon Rachel led the team in blocks with two and finished the night with 11 kills.
The College of Charleston Volleyball team finishes their regular season with an overall record of 20-10 and a conference record of 11-5.
The Cougars finished third in the Colonial Athletic Association conference behind second place James Madison University and first place Hofstra University.
The regular season may have ended for the College of Charleston volleyball team, but they will be returning to action in the 2018 CAA Championship Tournament.
The Cougars first round match is against the University of North Carolina Wilmington on Friday, November 16. The winner of Friday’s match will go on to face James Madison University in the Semi-Finals.
The Cougars are looking to win the championship at home, as the tournament will be held in the College of Charleston’s F. Mitchell Johnson Center from November 16 to November 18.
