The College of Charleston Women’s Basketball team ended their four-game road trip with a 66-54 win against William & Mary on Sunday afternoon. This win against the Tribe is their first conference victory. This win also ends a four-game losing streak for the cougars.
The veteran upperclassmen on the team provided a great contribution to the team’s victory on Sunday. Junior Forward, Baileigh Larson led the Cougars in scoring with 16 points off the bench. She also caught seven rebounds, a block and a steal. Senior Forward, Bri Sullivan led the team in rebounds with 10. Senior Guard Darien Huff scored 11 points, three steals and a block.
The Cougar’s bench provided 35 points. Freshman Guard Latrice Perkins led the team in steals with eight and assist with five.
The College’s defense had great impact on the game. The Lady Cougars had three blocks, 15 steals and 32 defensive rebounds. College of Charleston also held William & Mary to a 33.9 percent field goal percentage. The Cougars also scored 20 points off turnovers and made 76.9 percent of their free throws, making the most of their opportunities.
William & Mary did put up a fight even though they only had eight players. Bianca Boggs led the game in points with 18, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out four assist and had two steals. Victoria Reynolds grabbed a team high 10 rebounds in the game to go along with her four steals and block. William & Mary just couldn’t take the lid off the basket as they struggled to score throughout the game. They shot 43.5 percent from deep and only made four out their 12 free throws.
The College of Charleston’s Women’s Basketball team is now in the part of the schedule where there’ll be going against only conference opponents. The College is currently 8th in the Colonial Athletic Association conference with a 1-2 conference record. The next game for the Lady Cougars is Friday, January 18 where they will be facing off against Towson back at home.
