Cougar Spirit Week 2019! It came, and like the holiday season, it put a little bit of the warm and fuzzies in all of our hearts. Unlike the holiday season, it didn’t get me out of taking my Spanish test, but that’s neither here nor there.
Being a freshman here I can’t really compare it to last year. From my personal experience I would say that entire College of Charleston campus did a really great job this year showing off their Cougar pride.
The week started with the Maroon Monday Kickoff and while I wasn’t able to personally go, I know that it was a great start to the week. After that was the Pep Rally at Liberty which was way bigger and louder than I thought it was going to be but I think that really just ended up making it more fun. We had a DJ blasting some solid early 2000’s throwbacks. There were special dishes like seasoned mac and cheese and fried chicken. Not to mention an appearance by our school’s beloved mascot giving out high fives and greeting everyone as they came in.
Next was the Canned Food drive, a great way our school seeks to help out the Campus community. It aims to help the local community that gives our school so much.
We took a break from events on Thursday for Valentine’s; a chance to give the lovebirds time to spend with each other, friends with friends.
After that, there was the Lip-Sync competition where students got the chance to showcase musical and choreographic skills.
Finally, the week rounded out with the Family Fun-Day Tailgate where students, parents, siblings, and those cousins you aren’t really related to but still feel obligated to invite to events, got to all spend the day together. It was a big event held in the Cistern with some awesome food, a dessert table, and some pretty music.
Overall I would say that the week was a definite success, and I can’t wait to see what the school has planned for next year.
