This past weekend, the College of Charleston Baseball team faced off against the Dallas Baptist Patriots at home in a 3-game series.
The Cougars would win the first game, 4-3. The guys grabbed the lead early, with 4 runs in the 2nd inning. Center fielder Chris Graham led the team with 2 RBIs from his double to left center in the 2nd inning. The winning pitcher Griffin McLarty pitched for 6 innings. McLarty had 9 strikeouts and walked 4 batters in the first game. Nathan Ocker came in to close the game, getting his 8th save of the season.
The Cougars would go on to lose the next two games in the series. In Saturday’s game, Dallas Baptist beat The College 6-2. The score was tied 1-1 after two innings, then Dallas Baptist gained the lead after scoring 2 runs in the 4th inning. The Patriots sealed the deal with 2 runs in the 7th inning. The Cougars had 7 hits but couldn’t capitalize off of those opportunities, leaving 4 batters on base. Dallas Baptist Pitcher, MD Johnson was awarded the win, pitching 7 innings.
Sunday’s game was all but close. The Dallas Baptist Patriots won against the Cougars, 14-4. The Cougars got off to a good start, scoring 3 runs in the 2nd inning. Catcher Danny Woodrack hit a solo home run to left field in the 2nd inning. The third inning is where the Patriots began to take their lead as they scored 6 runs in the inning. Third Baseman Jackson Glen hit a grand slam in the inning, giving the Patriots a 6-2 lead after 3. The Patriots went on to score 8 more runs, with 5 of them coming in the 8th inning off 3 home runs. The winning pitcher was Jarod Bayless. Bayless pitched 4 innings and struck out 6 batters.
The Cougars will look to bounce back from this series loss in a home series starting Friday, April 26, where they will face off against conference opponent UNCW.
