The College of Charleston men’s rugby team faced off against the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons at home this past Saturday.
The College lost to Wake Forest 26-14.
In the first half, Wake Forest had much more ball possession than The College.
Wake Forest made it hard for the College to get things going in the first half due to the fact that they had the ball for most of the half.
It was also raining throughout the match so that didn’t make things easy.
They had three tries, two conversions and a penalty try, leading the Cougars 26-0 at the half.
After an intense halftime speech by Junior Nick Shaw, the Cougars came out firing on all cylinders to start the second half.
“When you’re losing to a team like that, and we don’t lose very often, when you’re down it’s a new atmosphere to be in so you just gotta make sure they got their minds right,” said Shaw.
Nick Shaw and Senior Anthony Sinicropi each scored a try and the Cougars had two conversions from Sophomore Buck Chevalier as well.
The College’s defense was great in the second half as they left the Demon Deacons scoreless.
They had a few more opportunities to score in the half but just couldn’t find their way pass the goalline.
Despite this being their second loss of the season, their eyes are still set on making the playoffs this season.
“We still have playoff hopes. We made the playoffs last year, only lost one game last year in a total of nine games. This is our second loss, I’m just hoping we can still make the playoffs and prove ourselves on a national level,” said Junior Nick Shaw.
The Cougars have two games left in the season.
Both games are on the road at UNCG and Campbell.
The College looks to win both of these games so they can solidify their spot in the playoffs.
