On January 25, the College of Charleston Men’s Basketball team squared off against conference rival, the University of North Carolina Wilmington, at home.
The Seahawks came out on top in the battle against the Cougars, 72-70.
It was a tight first half with both teams trading baskets back and forth, combatting everything they threw at each other.
At the end of the first half, the Cougars were up 36-32.
The College led by as many as eight points before UNCW regained the lead in the second half. The lead changed five times in the second half.
Down the stretch of the game, guard Grant Riller scored a 3-pointer, bringing the deficit down to one point in the last seven seconds of the game—but time was not on their side. UNCW scored a free throw to win the game.
UNCW guard Shykeem Phillips scored a game high 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
Grant Riller led the Cougars in scoring with 16 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.
Forward Sam Miller grabbed a game high 14 rebounds and scored 6 points.
With this loss, the Cougars are now tied for second in the Colonial Athletic Association conference standings with a 6-3 record against conference foes.
The next game for the Cougars will be an away game on January 30 against James Madison University. This game will be the first game in a short, two game road trip where they will also face off against William and Mary.
