Following an event in the Cistern Yard on Thursday, Jan. 30th, students, faculty and alumni flooded George St. to continue the celebrations for the College’s day-long 250th birthday celebration. The block party kicked off as volunteers handed out birthday hats, glasses, bow ties and tote bags for students to sport their school spirit. Many flocked to a row of food trucks in front of the Stern Center, the smells of street-food filling the air. Others took advantage of the many photo ops set up to spread the event on social media. Friends posed for selfies in front of a cascade of golden streamers beneath an arc of maroon balloons.
Partygoers drifted between George St. and the Cistern as games, cake and fundraising took place in the yard. A DJ blasted music that could be heard several streets away and a massive screen behind them displayed images of the College’s history.
It was an electrifying atmosphere as the school community mingled and celebrated in the blinding light of a setting sun, almost too perfectly reflecting a bright future ahead for the College of Charleston.
