The College of Charleston Men’s Basketball team started their road trip Thursday, January 30 against conference foe James Madison University. The Cougars took a 87-68 victory in enemy territory.
JMU kept it close in the first half, ending the half down by three. But in the second half, the Cougars ran the score up, preventing any form of a comeback from happening on the other side. The Dukes only made nine shots in the second half, shooting 33.3% from the field. The College capitalized off of JMU’s mistakes, scoring 28 of their points off turnovers.
Guard Grant Riller scored a game high 36 points along with 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
Sam Miller led the team in rebounds with 9, scored 7 points and had one block.
The next game on the Cougars’ road trip was against another conference rival Towson on February 1. The Cougars came out on top 79-70. The Cougars were down five at the end of the first half. In the second half, the Cougars gained and maintained the lead.
Riller lead the charge for the Cougars once again. He scored 28 points, dished out 4 assists and got 2 steals.
The Cougars were shooting efficiently this game, going 52.3% from the field.
These two conference wins have the College now tied for first in Colonial Athletic Association rankings.
On Thursday, February 6, the Cougars are back home at TD Arena to face off against William and Mary, and on February 8 against Elon. The game against Elon will take place on CofC Basketball Alumni Weekend. The College’s 250th Anniversary will also be celebrated that day. The team will play in ‘throwback’ jerseys to reflect the nostalgic theme of the game.
